25 additional COVID-19 cases reported in Washoe County

Reno/Sparks, NV – The Regional Information Center is reporting 25 additional COVID-19 cases in Washoe County and 11 recoveries.

  • Total COVID-19 cases in Washoe County: 873 (+25 from 4/29)
  • Deaths: 30 (+0)
  • Recoveries: 332 (+11)
  • Active cases: 511 (+14)
  • Currently hospitalized: 43 (+6)
  • Cases who have discharged from hospital: 66 (+2)

Hospital bed and ventilator information

In Washoe County as of April 29, 2020:

  • 60 percent of short-term, acute-care hospital beds are occupied (+4% since April 28)
  • 49 percent of the Intensive Care Unit beds are occupied (+4%)
  • 21 percent of ventilators are in use (+1%)

Total number of COVID-19 tests in Washoe County: 9,885 (-25 from April 29)

As of April 30, 2020, a total of 9,885 COVID-19 tests have been performed in Washoe County. The tests may include non-Washoe County residents who were tested in Washoe County. Note: The number will sometimes decrease based on the removal of cases who were tested in Washoe County but live outside Washoe County.

Virtual Town Hall – Friday, May 1, 2020 at 1 p.m.
This week’s Regional Information Center Virtual Town Hall will be in Spanish, with English subtitles. The Virtual Town Hall will be broadcast live Friday, May 1 at 1 p.m. on City of Reno YouTube (online) and Univision (television).

Saint Mary’s Respiratory Drive-Thru Clinic offers COVID-19 testing

Saint Mary’s Urgent Care Clinic in northwest Reno offers drive-thru testing for those experiencing COVID-19 like symptoms such as cough or shortness of breath who also have fever, chills, headache, sore throat, or muscle pain. The site is located at 6255 Sharlands Avenue and can provide up to 200 tests per day. Patients arriving for testing drive up and remain in their vehicle during the process with results provided in 48 to 72 hours. Please note: this site does not offer antibody testing.

Healthcare workers make up about 17 percent of total COVID-19 cases in Washoe County

As of April 25, there were 133 healthcare workers out of 792 cases (16.7%). Please note not all persons are directly involved in patient care; some are administrative or supportive staff. It should be also be known that the healthcare workers may or may not have contracted the virus at their workplace.

That includes healthcare workers at hospitals, urgent cares, long-term care facilities (includes hospice, assisted living, facilities for seniors), doctor’s offices and other health centers, behavioral health centers, chiropractor offices, OB/GYN and dental offices. More information on other employment sectors is being processed.

Can allergies be a sign of COVID-19?

Information is coming out at the local, state and federal level that shows that some people may have COVID-19 and presume it is allergies.

  • If you normally get seasonal allergies, but this year they’re worse than usual, we would recommend getting a risk assessment for testing.
  • If you don’t normally get seasonal allergies, but this year it feels like you’re getting seasonal allergies, we would recommend getting a risk assessment for testing.
