Dec. 17, 2020. Reno/Sparks, NV – The Regional Information Center is reporting five COVID-19-related deaths in Washoe County. The deceased are all males, age ranges include two individuals in their 50s, one in his 70s and two in their 80s. All but one (Male, 80s) had an underlying health condition. There have been 389 COVID-19-related deaths in Washoe County.

Additionally, we’re reporting 390 new COVID-19 cases in Washoe County.

  • Total COVID-19 cases in Washoe County: 32,040 (+390 from 12/14)
  • Deaths: 389 (+5)
  • Recovered: 17,851 (+164)
  • Active cases: 13,800 (+221)
  • Hospitalized with COVID-19*: 305 (-7)

*Data from Nevada Hospital Association (not updated on weekends or holidays) includes residents from outside of Washoe County.

COVID-19 tests performed in Washoe County

  • Total number of COVID-19 tests performed in Washoe County as of December 17: 276,253 (+2,089 since 12/16)

Note: These figures are provided by the State of Nevada and can be found on the State Dashboard. COVID-19 tests may include non-Washoe County residents who were tested in Washoe County.

Hospital bed and ventilator information

According to the Nevada Hospital Association, in Washoe County as of December 17 (Numbers not updated on weekends):

  • 88 percent staffed hospital beds are occupied (+1% since 12/16)
  • 74 percent of all licensed hospital beds are occupied (+0%)
  • 60 percent of all Intensive Care Unit beds are occupied (-2%)
  • 29 percent of all ventilators are in use (-2%)

NOTE: Numbers are for all hospital patients in Washoe County and not just COVID-19 patients.

‘When will I get the COVID-19 vaccine?’

The Regional Information Center has an updated COVID-19 vaccine webpage with detailed information on which people will get vaccinated first in Washoe County.

Most Washoe County residents are expected to be able to receive a vaccination sometime this spring. The dates are not known yet. Please do not call the health district to get a vaccine.

The Washoe County Health District received the first shipment of COVID-19 vaccines on Tuesday and will receive another shipment next week. Hospital personnel are the first to receive the vaccine, as determined by the State of Nevada tier-based system from its vaccine playbook
