3 COVID-19-related deaths, 346 new COVID-19 cases reported

Dec. 6, 2020. Reno/Sparks, NV – The Regional Information Center is reporting three additional COVID-19-related deaths in Washoe County:  A male in his 70s, female in her 80s and male in his 80s; all had an underlying health condition.

There have been 317 COVID-19-related deaths in Washoe County.

Additionally, there were 346 new COVID-19 cases reported in Washoe County along with 63 recoveries.

  • Total COVID-19 cases in Washoe County: 27,879 (+346 from 12/5)
  • Deaths: 317 (+3)
  • Recovered: 15,917 (+63)
  • Active cases: 11,645 (+280)
  • Hospitalized with COVID-19*: 283 (+0)

*Data from Nevada Hospital Association (not updated on weekends or holidays) includes residents from outside of Washoe County.

COVID-19 tests performed in Washoe County

  • Total number of COVID-19 tests performed in Washoe County as of December 6: 254,929 (+1,925 since 12/5)

Note: These figures are provided by the State of Nevada and can be found on the State Dashboard. COVID-19 tests may include non-Washoe County residents who were tested in Washoe County.

Hospital bed and ventilator information

According to the Nevada Hospital Association, in Washoe County as of December 4 (Numbers not updated on weekends):

  • 90 percent staffed hospital beds are occupied (-1% since 12/3)
  • 77 percent of all licensed hospital beds are occupied (+0%)
  • 58 percent of all Intensive Care Unit beds are occupied (+2%)
  • 42 percent of all ventilators are in use (+0%)

NOTE: Numbers are for all hospital patients in Washoe County and not just COVID-19 patients.

COVID-19 enforcement: self-serve stations must be operated by facility staff

The Regional Information Center is reminding both residents and business owners that self-serve soft drink refreshment stations cannot be accessed by customers and drinks must be served by facility staff wearing proper personal protective equipment, per Governor Sisolak’s directive.

Directive 013, section 9, outlines usage for self-serve stations. Regional code enforcement efforts identified several convenient stores not adhering to the directive and allowing patrons to access the self-serve stations.

COVID-19 Vaccine webpage live on Health District website

The Washoe County COVID-19 Vaccine webpage is live and will be updated frequently with the latest information as it becomes available. The COVID-19 vaccine will be provided when it’s ruled safe and effective by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Governor Sisolak announced that Nevada is expected to receive 164,150 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine this month, which will be used for hospital staff, skilled nursing facility staff and residents, and other Tier One individuals as outlined in Nevada’s COVID-19 Vaccination Program Playbook.

Volunteer to help fight COVID-19 in Washoe County

The Washoe County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is looking for medical professionals or those without medical experience to volunteer to help fight COVID-19 in Washoe County.

MRC was created to support public health and emergency response efforts during natural disasters and other emergencies by providing trained volunteers to help staff shelters, alternate care sites, and points of dispensing. Given the rise in hospitalizations and increased demand in COVID-19 testing, volunteers are needed to support the region.
