WCHD inspection staff had paused routine inspections to concentrate only on complaint investigations, construction inspection and essential inspections, based on FDA guidance during the COVID-19 pandemic. Many in the Environmental Health Services division of the Health District were directly involved in the COVID-19 response in Washoe County, such as standing up the drive-thru testing, among other things. The Census matters
The Census matters. We are currently under 50% reported as a state, well below the 2010 census numbers.  The census is used to determine congressional representation and federal funding.  In fact, the state will lose over $2,000 in federal funding per year, for each person that is not counted in this year’s census.  That is funding that goes to education, healthcare, and over 50 additional federal programs.  Please encourage everyone you know to complete the census as soon as possible. Given the needs of the state as we recover from this pandemic, getting an accurate count this year is more important than ever.  Go to www.census.nv.gov. to complete the census today.

Community asked to turn on lights for 2020 high school seniors

The Washoe County School District is asking local businesses and organizations to create signs and messages to remind our seniors to “Be the Light—and Never Give Up on Your Dreams!” on Friday, April 17, at 8:20 p.m. (2020 in military time).

The WCSD Class of 2020 is on the threshold of graduating from high school, but because of COVID-19 closures, they are missing out on some of the most memorable experiences of their senior year. WCSD is asking members of the community to turn up the lights on their signs, marquees, and front porches to send their own message to our graduating seniors. See more here.
