Additional COVID-19-related death reported in Washoe County

Reno/Sparks, NV – The Regional Information Center is reporting an additional COVID-19-related death in Washoe County: A male in his 70s with underlying health conditions. This is the 30th COVID-19-related death in Washoe County.

Further, there were 24 additional recoveries and 14 additional positive cases of COVID-19 in Washoe County.

  • Total COVID-19 cases in Washoe County: 848 (+14 from 4/28)
  • Deaths: 30 (+1)
  • Recoveries: 321 (+24)
  • Active cases: 497 (-11)
  • Currently hospitalized: 37 (+0)
  • Cases who have discharged from hospital: 64 (+1)

Hospital bed and ventilator information

In Washoe County as of April 28, 2020:

  • 56 percent of short-term, acute-care hospital beds are occupied (-1% since April 27)
  • 45 percent of the Intensive Care Unit beds are occupied (-6%)
  • 20 percent of ventilators are in use (-2%)

Total number of COVID-19 tests in Washoe County: 9,910 (+286 from April 28)

As of April 29, 2020, a total of 9,910 COVID-19 tests have been performed in Washoe County. The tests may include non-Washoe County residents who were tested in Washoe County.

Virtual Town Hall – Friday, May 1, 2020 at 1 p.m.

This week’s Regional Information Center Virtual Town Hall will be in Spanish, with English subtitles. The Virtual Town Hall will be broadcast live Friday, May 1 at 1 p.m. on City of Reno YouTube (online) and Univision (television).

Residents who have recovered from COVID-19 encouraged to donate plasma

In an effort to treat critically ill COVID-19 patients, those who have had COVID-19 and completely recovered are encouraged to donate plasma. Vitalant is collecting plasma and the immune-boosting antibodies in that plasma. See the Vitalant website to see eligibility requirements.

Incident Management Team encourages people with symptoms to get tested for COVID-19

The Washoe County COVID-19 Incident Management Team is encouraging residents who have the following symptoms to submit a COVID-19 risk assessment:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Chills
  • Repeated shaking with chills
  • Muscle pain
  • Headache
  • Sore throat
  • New loss of taste or smell
