Bull Fire Operational Update – October 8
Incident Start: October 2nd, 2026
Cause: Human Caused – Under Investigation
Size: 1,529 acres
Containment: 92%
Personnel Assigned: 226
Current Situation: The Bull Fire reached 92% containment yesterday, a significant increase from 69% the previous day. The fire remains at 1,529 acres. Crews have worked hard over the past several days to secure the fire perimeter, and their efforts are reflected in the progress that has been made.
With much of the fire perimeter now contained, suppression repair continues to be a growing focus. Additional heavy equipment, including excavators and a grader, arrived yesterday evening to support upcoming repair operations. This equipment will assist with repairing dozer lines and other areas disturbed during firefighting efforts, while hand crews continue working on handlines and more lightly impacted areas. These efforts are a very important part of reducing erosion and minimizing impacts to natural and cultural resources.
Although substantial progress has been made, firefighters remain vigilant as stronger winds are forecasted to arrive later this week. Resources will continue patrolling the fire perimeter and addressing any remaining areas of concern.
Weather and Fire Behavior: Warm and dry conditions will continue Thursday, with temperatures reaching the low to mid 80’s and generally light winds. A cold front approaching the area will bring increasing winds Friday afternoon, with gusts around 25 mph. Stronger winds are expected Saturday, bringing the potential for critical fire weather conditions. Crews will remain focused on securing containment lines ahead of the changing weather.
Evacuations, Closures & Safety: All evacuation warnings have been lifted. Residents are encouraged to stay informed of any changes through emergencywashoe.com.
A forest closure remains in effect on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. For closure details, visit https://www.fs.usda.gov/r04/humboldt-toiyabe. Please avoid the area and keep roads clear for emergency responders.
Aircraft remain available to support firefighting efforts as needed. Unauthorized drones near wildfires pose a serious safety risk to firefighting aircraft and personnel. Remember – if you fly, we can’t.
Smoke: Smoke may remain visible from the Bull Fire throughout the day. Dust devils may also be visible from surrounding communities as winds increase and may appear similar to smoke columns from a distance. For current air quality information, visit the AirNow Fire and Smoke Map.
