How to support fire recovery efforts

A message from the Community Foundation of Northern Nevada:

As the Hawk Fire continues to grow, our thoughts are with everyone affected by this crisis. To support the long-term recovery of our communities, the Community Foundation of Northern Nevada has established the 2026 Northern Nevada Wildfire Relief Fund.

How the Fund Helps

Recovery is a steady process that takes place long after the immediate crisis has passed. While emergency agencies focus on urgent safety and shelter, this fund is dedicated to supporting our community through the extended rebuilding process. Your generosity will empower trusted local organizations to deliver sustained, meaningful assistance where it is needed most.

To ensure your donations make the greatest possible impact, funding will be directed to families and individuals who have been carefully vetted by the Red Cross and our local nonprofit partners, including Catholic Charities, conducting professional case management. Examples of support may include securing transitional housing, replacing essential belongings, accessing ongoing mental health services, and addressing other critical needs.

We will focus our resources on these verified, complex, and evolving challenges in the months to come, targeting critical gaps not filled by government and broader community support.

While this Relief Fund is dedicated to long-term recovery, we know many of our neighbors are facing urgent, immediate needs today. If you are in contact with displaced families or individuals who need immediate shelter, meals, or emergency assistance, please help us connect them to vital resources. The Red Cross is on the ground providing active relief and can be reached directly through the Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery portal.
