Washoe County to downsize wildfire Community Resource Center due to decreased demand

August 31, 2026 Regional Emergency Operations Center

The Washoe County Community Resource Center for those affected by wildfires will downsize at 6 p.m. today. as the demand for in-person services has waned. A member of the Red Cross will stay on site through the end of the week to schedule one-on-one appointments with local resource providers. The resource center is at the North Valleys Community Center.  

Mr. Yummy Yummy food truck will be on site today from 4 to 6 p.m. to serve free chicken teriyaki bowls, and the Food Bank of Northern Nevada will hold a food distribution site at Stead Airport also from 4 to 6 p.m. today.  

The Salvation Army Community Center at 1931 Sutro St., Reno, will be open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., for those affected by the fires. Food will be available from 9-11:30 a.m. and clothing will be available from 1-3 p.m. This is not a donation site.
