Bull Fire Operational Update – October 7

October 7, 2026 Regional Emergency Operations Center

Incident Start: October 2nd, 2026
Cause: Human Caused – Under Investigation
Size: 1,529 acres
Containment: 69%
Personnel Assigned: 263

Current Situation: Containment on the Bull Fire increased to 69% yesterday, while the fire remains at 1,529 acres.
Fire behavior remains very minimal as firefighters continue to secure and patrol the perimeter, extinguish remaining
heat, and strengthen containment where needed.

As suppression efforts progress, crews are shifting additional focus toward suppression repair. Repair work is
underway on handlines and dozer lines that were used during firefighting operations, while resources continue
assessing other areas for needed repair. This work helps reduce erosion and minimize longer-term impacts to
natural and cultural resources.

Aircraft remain available to support suppression efforts as needed. The public is reminded that unauthorized drones
near a wildfire create a serious safety hazard for firefighters and aviation resources. Remember – if you fly, we can’t.
Weather and Fire Behavior: Sunny, warm and dry conditions are expected today, with temperatures reaching the
upper 70’s to low 80’s and southeast winds around 5 – 10 mph. Unseasonably warm and dry conditions are expected
to continue through Friday, with temperatures running well above average. A change in the weather pattern is
expected beginning Friday as a cold front approaches the area, bringing the potential for stronger winds. The
strongest winds are currently expected Saturday, when dry and gusty conditions could result in critical fire weather
conditions.

Evacuations, Closures & Safety: All evacuation warnings have been lifted. Residents in affected areas should
continue to monitor official evacuation information for changing conditions. For the most current evacuation zones
and warnings please visit emergencywashoe.com.

There is a forest closure order in place for the Humbolt-Toiyabe National Forest. For forest closure information
please visit https://www.fs.usda.gov/r04/humboldt-toiyabe. PLEASE avoid the Bull Fire area and keep roads clear for
emergency responders.

Smoke: Smoke may remain visible from the Bull Fire throughout the day. Dust devils may also be visible from
surrounding communities as winds increase and may appear similar to smoke columns from a distance. For current
air quality information, visit the AirNow Fire and Smoke Map.
