Washoe County crews make significant progress in Hidden Valley flood cleanup

Washoe County crews continue to make significant progress in the North Hidden Valley flood recovery effort, completing curb and gutter cleaning throughout the affected upper-area streets. This work moves the response another day closer to restoring normal conditions in the neighborhood.

The operation included support from Roads & Stormwater crews across Washoe County (traffic safety, equipment services, water/sewer), the City of Reno, and contractor SNC. In total, 31 Washoe County team members worked alongside partner agencies and contractors to remove remaining mud and debris, clean drainage areas, and support street restoration. SNC continued street-washing operations with three water trucks and four kick brooms. Rough Rock Road, Jagged Rock, Hurst Park Road, Lingfield Drive, Cheltenham Way, Gravel Court, and Rocky Flats Court have now been cleaned.

There remains a lot of work to be done. Rock, mud, and debris were deposited onto the right of way and into the stormwater conveyance infrastructure, including impacts to 365,171 square feet of pavement, 14,857 feet of stormwater pipe, 8,009 feet of stormwater ditch, 58,411 square feet of stormwater detention basin, and 105 stormwater catch basins. This does not include private assets. County staff will continue coordinating resources to restore drainage function, remove remaining sediment, and support residents as recovery work continues.

Residents who need help cleaning up their properties can reach out to Washoe311 (3-1-1) to put in a request for volunteer assistance. The Board of County Commissioners will vote on an emergency declaration for the incident at a special meeting on Friday, June 26.

Below are photos of stormwater protections that worked to hold back water from the neighborhood. They are designed for heavy stormwater, not for flash flooding. The photos were taken during post-flood inspections.
