Health District launches COVID-19 map; data doesn’t show where residents contracted the virus

The Washoe County Health District launched a COVID-19 case-positive map as part of its overall COVID-19 dashboard.

Users can see how many positive cases of COVID-19 are in each ZIP code in Washoe County by going to the COVID19Washoe.com website. The map is in the Case History area of the dashboard alongside tabs for “All Variables” and “History.” The full dashboard can be found by hitting the “Click Here for more maps.”

Residents should keep in mind that the data does not represent where residents contracted COVID-19, but rather where they are self-isolating. COVID-19 is spreading throughout our community. Just because one ZIP code might have more cases, that doesn’t mean it is a “hot spot.”

The COVID-19 dashboard also breaks down age, gender, currently hospitalized, those released from the hospital, deaths and those who have recovered. The Health District is working to include race and ethnicity. Not all cases provided that information because is not required in order to get tested.
