The Bull Fire burning north of Verdi remains at 1,529 acres and is 40% contained. Nevada Team 3 assumed command at 6 p.m. Saturday, October 3, 2026.

Current Situation: Forward progression of the fire has been stopped, and the fire held within containment lines overnight. Crews remain on the hill, addressing isolated tree torching and remaining hot spots. The Hawk Fire burn scar continues to assist with suppression, providing a natural containment feature. On the East side containment has been established, the fire held overnight, and crews continue to patrol, mop up, and check for remaining hot spots. On the west side firefighters are working close to the fire’s edge to limit growth, gridding the area and quickly extinguishing several hot spots while continuing to check for additional heat. On the North side dozer line is in place, and crews are ensuring there is no heat within 50 feet of the containment line. The fire is burning in an area where structures, natural gas lines, and timber are at risk. Firefighters are prioritizing the protection of life, property, critical infrastructure, and natural resources.

Operational Objectives: The primary objectives are to keep the fire north of the communities of Verdi, Somersett, and Mogul; east of Dog Valley Road; south of Cold Springs and Bordertown; and west of the Hawk Fire perimeter.

Weather and Fire Behavior: Lighter, terrain-driven winds are expected through the weekend. Dry and warm conditions, with limited overnight humidity recovery, will continue through at least early next week. Maximum temperatures are expected to reach 82 degrees, with light winds becoming southwest around 10 mph in the afternoon. Firefighters will continue to track weather and fire conditions as they work to secure the fire.

Smoke: The public may see smoke as crews work to extinguish hot spots. Dust devils may also be visible if winds increase. Find current air quality information at AirNow Fire and Smoke Map.

Evacuations and Closures: Evacuation warnings have been lifted in parts of Somersett and Verdi. One residence remains in the “Go Now” evacuation zone. Residents in affected areas should continue to monitor official evacuation information, keep their go-bags ready, and be prepared to leave if conditions change.
