Reno/Sparks, NV – The Regional Information Center is reporting an additional COVID-19-related death in Washoe County: A female in her 70s with underlying health conditions.

This is the 39th COVID-19-related death in Washoe County.

Additionally, there were 35 new positive cases of COVID-19 and 10 additional recoveries.

  • Total COVID-19 cases in Washoe County: 1,065 (+35 from 5/7)
  • Deaths: 39 (+1)
  • *Recoveries: 466 (+10)
  • Active cases: 560 (+24)
  • Currently hospitalized: 43 (-4)
  • Cases who have discharged from hospital: 92 (+6)

*Thursday’s release incorrectly stated there were 431 recoveries, which was not updated. The actual number was 456.

Hospital bed and ventilator information

In Washoe County as of May 7, 2020:

  • 54 percent of staffed short-term, acute-care hospital beds are occupied (-8% since May 6)
  • 39 percent of the Intensive Care Unit beds are occupied (+4%)
  • 12 percent of ventilators are in use (-7%)

The number of staffed beds in Washoe County does not include alternate care sites such as the one at Renown Regional Medical Center.

Total number of COVID-19 tests performed in Washoe County: 12,472 (+279 from 5/6)

As of May 7, 2020, a total of 12,472 COVID-19 tests have been performed in Washoe County. The tests may include non-Washoe County residents who were tested in Washoe County. The numbers are provided by the State of Nevada and include testing done in Washoe County via the drive-thru site at the Livestock Events Center and at area hospitals.

Residents who have symptoms of COVID-19, including cough, shortness of breath and others are encouraged to get tested.  To complete a risk assessment and potentially get tested for COVID-19, call 775-328-2427, or fill out a risk assessment form online (Complete el formulario de evaluación COVID-19).
