208 recoveries reported thanks to data cleanup efforts

Reno/Sparks, NV – The Regional Information Center is reporting 208 recoveries and 65 new COVID-19 cases in Washoe County.

The jump in recoveries is attributed to data cleanup efforts tied to positive cases that were investigated by other jurisdictions, such as the State of Nevada and our tribal partners.

  • Total COVID-19 cases in Washoe County: 4,173 (+65 from 7/19)
  • Deaths: 102 (+0)
  • Recovered: 2,975 (+208)
  • Active cases: 1,096 (-143)
  • Currently hospitalized: 64 (-6)
  • Cases who have discharged from hospital: 320 (+8)

Total number of COVID-19 tests performed in Washoe County

  • Total number of COVID-19 tests performed in Washoe County as of July 20: 71,367 (+804 since 7/19)

Note: These figures are provided by the State of Nevada and can be found on the State Dashboard. COVID-19 tests may include non-Washoe County residents who were tested in Washoe County.

Hospital bed and ventilator information

According to the Nevada Hospital Association, in Washoe County as of July 20:

  • 72 percent of all staffed short-term, acute-care hospital beds are occupied (-3% since 7/19)
  • 61 percent of the all Intensive Care Unit beds are occupied (+6%)
  • 14 percent of all ventilators are in use (+0%)

NOTE: Numbers are for all hospital patients in Washoe County and not just COVID-19 patients.

Wildfire smoke and COVID-19

Air quality levels in Washoe County are at “moderate”, and it is possible that pollutants in the air caused by the Hog Fire near Susanville, Calif. Could increase susceptibility to respiratory infections, likely including COVID-19. Recent scientific publications suggest that air pollutant exposure worsens COVID-19 symptoms and outcomes.
