Two additional COVID-19-related deaths in Washoe County reported, 166 new cases

Reno/Sparks, NV – The Regional Information Center is reporting two additional COVID-19-related deaths in Washoe County: A male in his 60s with underlying health conditions and a male in his 80s with an underlying health condition. There are 153 COVID-19-related deaths in Washoe County.

Additionally, 166 new COVID-19 cases are being reported in Washoe County, the second most ever reported in one day (most was 179 cases on July 30), and 49 recoveries. The active case count is at 1,346, the highest number reported to date (Previous high was 1,301 on July 25). The increase continues to be attributed to Labor Day gatherings.

As businesses continue reopen, masks are still required under the Governor’s Directive 024.  Social distancing and handwashing are strongly encouraged.

  • Total COVID-19 cases in Washoe County: 8,461 (+166 from 9/16)
  • Deaths: 153 (+2)
  • Recovered: 6,962 (+49)
  • Active cases: 1,346 (+115)
  • Currently hospitalized: 54 (+3)
  • Cases who have discharged from hospital: 626 (+3)

COVID-19 tests performed in Washoe County

  • Total number of COVID-19 tests performed in Washoe County as of September 17: 126,463 (+1,692 since 9/16)

Note: These figures are provided by the State of Nevada and can be found on the State Dashboard. COVID-19 tests may include non-Washoe County residents who were tested in Washoe County.

Hospital bed and ventilator information

According to the Nevada Hospital Association, in Washoe County as of September 17:

  • 66 percent of all staffed short-term, acute-care hospital beds are occupied (+1% since 9/16)
  • 42 percent of the all Intensive Care Unit beds are occupied (+0%)
  • 16 percent of all ventilators are in use (+1%)

NOTE: Numbers are for all hospital patients in Washoe County and not just COVID-19 patients.
